THE MOON AND THE TORONTO TRANSIT COMMISSION
CASA LOMA/RUSSELL HILL SUBWAY ACCIDENT AUGUST 11th 1995
INQUEST DAY FIVE -
12th January 1996
NOT MY FAULT!!
It seemed to me that we were not
keeping to a very exact schedule and I made a note to record when the
proceedings started. Good job I did for at 10:35 a.m. Mr. Punter, the Crown
counsel, announced that the apparently ready witness, Mr. Jim Thomas, who I had
hoped would be giving the jury a lesson in signal design, would not be
appearing till at least Tuesday of next week and that in the meantime we would
be hearing more of the incidental stuff from Fire, Police and Ambulance.
The jury, the court and the gaggle
of media are meeting at St. Clair West at approx. 6:30 a.m on Sunday morning to
board a special train and be run from St. Clair West to Dupont a few times to
"get the feel" for the line. Good thinking.
Until the court was in session,
there was a lot of running around by Court and Counsel. The words
"witness", "difficulty" and "problem" were being
bandied around and despite the media's best effort to get Mr. Punter to say
anything but "No comment!", he stuck to his guns and would say
nothing.
The court is adjourned until 10:00
a.m., Monday 15th 1996.
1)
This
inquest is the first time in a while that the innards of the organization have
been exposed to public view and it is fairly obvious that we are going to get
creamed on Communication Problems; you can see where everyone is pointing
already from the thrust of the Counsels questions. I do hope that the delay we
experienced today is NOT to do with someone trying to hide something!!!!!
